Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) announced that China Shipping Group’s vessel, “Trophy” made its inaugural call to JICT on the 5th September 1999. The “Trophy” will be one of the vessels operating China Shipping’s direct weekly service to North Europe, the first such service for Indonesia.

The largest container ship to call at JICT to date, the “Trophy” has a capacity of 2228 TEUs and measures 182 metres in length and 31.4 metres in breadth. The “Trophy” visited Shanghai and Hong Kong \
before arriving at JICT and will go on to call at Rotterdam, Hamburg and Felixstowe before returning to Asia.

Since operations at JICT commenced on April 1st 1999, productivity at JICT has already shown impressive gains, whilst the volume of cargo handled at the terminal continues to increase. With existing –14m deep berths being equipped and development plans for expansion already nearing completion, the potential for increased direct services to JICT exists, affirming the terminal’s preeminent role for trade in this region.

Commenting on the new service, Mr Simon Moore, President Director of JICT said “ I am delighted to welcome China Shipping’s groundbreaking new service to JICT. In its first 5 months of operation, JICT has successfully attracted new direct weekly services to North America and Europe : customers using JICT now have an unrivalled ranged of shipment options. Furthermore, we hope to soon receive the first feeder services linking JICT with other ports in Indonesia. This will extend the services of JICT to the benefit of many more importers, exporters and shipping lines alike.”
