[27 April 2000 – Hong Kong] Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) initiated an educational programme at CCC Chuen Yuen College (Chuen Yuen College) this academic year aiming to raise students’ capabilities in website development.

The programme consists of three major components – education, competition and sponsorship.

The education component features a Familiarisation Course for Building Web Pages. The course comprises of three lessons, aiming to provide students hands-on experience in designing and delivering ideas and information by creating attractive web pages. IT professionals from HIT’s Information Services Department developed this course outline which covers how to create home page, the basics of web page design and how to make web pages attractive.

Immediately following the completion of the lessons, students are encouraged to form teams to enter the Web Page Design Competition. Each team is allowed to select its own subject amongst the set themes for the web page. Themes for the Competition include sports, music, art, books and computer. Judging criteria include content development, structure and interface, and artistic impression.

Much more than an one-off effort, HIT has sponsored a whole range of software to be installed in the College’s Computer Room aiming to create a hi-tech environment to nurture the students for the new century. The sponsorship include 21 sets of MS Frontpage, four sets of Corel Draw 9.0, three sets of Corel Draw Clip Art and one set of Macromedia Web Design Studio.

Commenting on the programme, HIT’s Managing Director Eric Ip said, “I am pleased with the progress the students have made. Being a pioneer in utilizing information technology in the terminal industry for decades, we are keen to share our expertise with the community through the Dock School Programme.”

Ms Ruth Lee, Principal of Chuen Yuen College, shared Mr Ip’s vision, “We are delighted to work with HIT in equipping the younger generation with the latest IT knowledge. In this way, we help to raise local youngsters to meet the far crying market demand for IT talents.”

Under this scheme, HIT will not only give financial support to its Dock Schools, but also co-organise and sponsor activities to increase awareness of social responsibility.
