HPH Receives Prestigious Software Certification

Hutchison Port Holdings Limited’s (HPH) Operations Development & Technology (ODT) department successfully achieved Level 3 of the CMMI Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)® (www.cmmiinstitute.com).

The CMMI® certification is an industry-recognised framework for the consistent quality delivery of software applications. HPH is the first logistics and transportation related company in Hong Kong with a software application development process rated Level 3 CMMI®*.

Commenting on the achievement, Edmond Leung, HPH’s Head of ODT and Chief Information Officer said, “This certification confirms HPH’s commitment to pursuing process advancement through continuous quality improvement. The quality of our award-winning terminal management system – nGen – is only as good as the processes that are used to develop and maintain it. The success of our software process improvements across the Group is ultimately critical to the fast and efficient movement of containers in and out of our terminals on a day-to-day basis.

“An appraisal at maturity level 3 is a prestigious recognition in the IT industry for an organisation with demonstrable international quality management and processes for software development. CMMI® is a de facto IT industry standard in measuring an organisation’s capability to develop and deliver IT software, systems and services.”

Developed in-house, nGen is a modular, scalable operation platform that controls the entire scope of operations at many HPH terminals including ship and yard planning, gate operations, vessel operations and interactions, yard configuration and performance, overall operations monitoring, equipment utilisation, productivity and cost optimisation.

Currently, the nGen operating system is responsible for more than 50 per cent of HPH’s annual TEU movements.
