Hutchison Ports Thailand Achieves Container Handling Milestone


Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) today held an event to mark the handling of 15 million twenty foot equivalent unit (TEU) of containers since the commencement of operations in 2002.

The event, which was held at HPT’s Terminal C1C2 in Laemchabang Port, was attended by port officials, customers and other business partners who witnessed the loading of the 15 millionth TEU container onto OOCL’s vessel M.V. ARICA. Among the guests attending the event was the Chairman, Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of Thailand, Admiral Apiwat Srivardhana.

HPT is Thailand’s largest container terminal operator and is currently managing and operating Terminals A2, A3, C1 and C2 at Laemchabang Port with 15 quay cranes and 39 container yard cranes. It will soon commence the construction of new deep water facilities at Terminals D1, D2 and D3 to meet the anticipated growth in Thailand’s economy.

Commenting on this momentous occasion, Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of HPT said, “This is a significant milestone made possible by the passion and commitment of our employees.
