Jakarta International Container Terminal Takes Delivery of 9 New RTGCs

[Jakarta, 30 September 2002] – Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), the largest container terminal in Indonesia today reaffirmed its commitment to provide excellent service as the nation’s gateway by receiving 9 brand new Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGCs). The ZPMC (Zhenhua Port Machinery Company Limited) cranes were delivered to JICT Terminal 1 with the arrival of equipment carrier Zhen Hua from Shanghai at 23.00 hours on Sunday. The newly purchased equipment will be put into operation immediately following technical commissioning.

Each RTGCs is 1/5 high (one-over-five high), will increase JICT’s stacking capacity in the container yard. The 9 RTGCs will improve the productivity of the container yard operations and thus improving the overall productivity of the operations department.

Commenting on the newly arrived RTGCs, W.S. Wirjawan, President Director of JICT said the new equipment would boost the overall speed of loading and unloading activities. “JICT is also awaiting for the arrival of 3 Post-Panamax Cranes early next year. On top of that, JICT will finish the second phase of its berth construction of an additional 133 meters by the end of December 2002. This together means that JICT is more than ready to serve larger and more sophisticated vessels with bigger volume.”

With the arrival of the equipment, JICT has increased its RTGCs from 36 to 45.
