Port of Felixstowe Welcomes Enhanced Feeder Links

24-Mar-2004

The Port of Felixstowe welcomed the recent decision by Feederlink to increase its frequency between Felixstowe and South-Shields (Tyne) to twice-weekly sailings from the beginning of April 2004.

At the same time, Feederlink intends to increase its weekly frequency between the Port and Grangemouth from three to four sailings each week.

The extended services will target deep-sea traffics, and will significantly enhance the Port’s short-sea connections to the markets of the North of England, and Scotland.

Richard Pearson, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, commented:

“We thoroughly welcome these new services at the Port of Felixstowe. We believe that further east-coast links are very much to the benefit of our customers and, indeed, to UK trade in general, and we are committed to supporting and encouraging such coastal services at Felixstowe.”

He continued:

“Importantly, as well as increasing customer choice, these new services will provide a viable alternative to road transport for containers heading to the North of England, and will help to ease the pressure on the UK’s road and rail network. This is something to which we remain fully committed at the Port.”
