The Port of Felixstowe has welcomed a new coastal feeder service, connecting the Port with Teesport in the North East of the United Kingdom. This service, operated by Feederlink B.V., will make weekly calls at Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container port, and extends the Port’s connections to the Northern markets. The service will run weekly on Wednesdays.

This service, in conjunction with the ever-growing rail network, aims to help to decrease the dependency on roads, making the transport of goods around the UK more efficient. This new coastal connection will lead to approximately 2,000 fewer containers on the nation’s roads and railways each year.

Richard Pearson, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, commented:

“We believe that further East coast links are hugely beneficial, both to customers and to UK trade in general. These services provide an alternative method of transport to the North of England, and help to ease the burden on the UK road network. The Port of Felixstowe is committed to supporting and promoting initiatives such as these.”

The Port of Felixstowe already enjoys a host of feeder services, with links to many UK ports. The relationship between the Port and Feederlink is already firmly established; services currently exist between Felixstowe and South Shields (twice weekly), and between Felixstowe and Grangemouth (four times weekly). Added to this are weekly services to Southampton, Immingham, Belfast and Dublin, through Feederlink’s sister company, Eurofeeders Limited.
