Vessel sizes at JICT Increase

[Jakarta – 27th April 2001] – Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) serviced the largest vessel ever to call at its terminals when it handled P&O Nedlloyd’s 3,558 TEU ” Nedlloyd Africa” on April 26, 2001.

P&O Nedlloyd’s “Nedlloyd Aftrica” is a 269 metre long and 50,792 DWT vessel which operates as part of the Grand Alliance direct call service to and from Europe. The Grand Alliance is the world’s largest container shipping alliance, and launched its direct call services to Indonesia on July 7, 2000.

The Alliance consists of five global shipping line partners, namely Hapag-Lloyd, Malaysia Internal Shipping Corporation (MISC), Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line (NYK), Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and P&O Nedlloyd. The partners cooperate throughout the world in sharing vessels, facilities and services on all major trade routes.
