25-Jul-2005

Harwich International Port has celebrated the first call at the leading east coast cruise port by Thomson Cruises, part of the TUI Group one of Europe’s leading travel firms.

The Thomson Celebration arrived at Harwich on 24th July before sailing for a 13-night cruise to the Norwegian Fjords.

The Thomson Celebration, measuring 214 metres in length and with a capacity of 1,300 passengers, will carry out seven cruises from Harwich throughout the summer season. In addition to the Norwegian Fjords, the classic cruise ship will visit the Baltic Sea as well as Belgium and Holland.

Facilities include a two-storey show lounge, a fully-fitted health club, three restaurants, five bars, a nightclub, cinema and various other entertaining and relaxing amenities.

David Gledhill, Chief Operating Officer of Harwich International Port, commented:

“The decision by Thomson to call at Harwich International Port is a huge boost to the region and cements Harwich’s place as one of the UK’s major cruise terminals. We are pleased to welcome such a prestigious cruise liner, and are delighted to have made what we are sure will be a long-term partnership with Thomson.”

The Thomson Celebration’s sister ship, Thomson Spirit, is currently sailing in the Mediterranean. In total, Harwich will welcome 43 calls this year.
