HIT Helps Establish Cancer Patient Resource Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital

[15 March 2007 – Hong Kong] Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) participated today in the opening ceremony of the new Cancer Patient Resource Centre (CPRC) at Princess Margaret Hospital.

HIT donated HK$1 million to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund to help establish the facility and become its principal donor. This occasion was marked by the Honourable Vincent Fang, J.P., Chairman of Hospital Governing Committee, Kwai Chung and Princess Margaret Hospitals, Dr. Lily Chiu, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon West and Princess Margaret Hospital, Sally Lo, MBE, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund and Kenneth Ying, Executive Director of HIT, who jointly unveiled a commemorative plaque at the event.

Cancer remains a leading cause of death in Hong Kong, more than 22,000 individuals are newly diagnosed every year, translating into a daily figure of 60 cases. According to Hospital Authority Hong Kong Cancer Registry’s statistics, one in three members of the general population will experience some form of cancer during his or her life time.*

Commenting on the occasion, Kenneth Ying said, “We are pleased to give our support to this worthy cause, the establishment of the new CPRC will provide the latest cancer care services to more than 2,000 patients and families living in the area. The Princess Margaret Hospital is our “local” hospital and has been looking after the community including HIT staff for over 30 years, we are grateful to be making a positive contribution to those affected by the illness.”

The CPRC, located on the 2/F and 3/F of the new oncology building at the hospital, offers a professional and caring environment to people living with cancer and those newly diagnosed with cancer within the hospital setting. For more information on the CPRC, please visit www.cancer-fund.org.
