[Hong Kong – 13 May 2003] – Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) has recently taken delivery of two new quay cranes.

Manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries, the new quay cranes will have an outreach of 63 metres and a lifting capacity of 60 tonnes. In terms of location, the cranes will be installed and calibrated at HIT’s two new berths at Container Terminal Nine (CT9). With the new arrivals, HIT’s facilities at CT9 currently have five quay cranes with a future planned total of nine quay cranes.

Eric Ip, Managing Director of HIT commented on the occasion, “We are very pleased to be installing these new cranes at CT9. Once the terminal is operational, we will have ample capacity to handle Hong Kong’s growing container throughput.”

HIT’s two berths at CT9 have a depth alongside of 15.5m, supported by 19 hectares of land. This development will further enhance HIT’s flexibility in handling the next generation of container vessels. The official launch of HIT’s CT9 facilities is scheduled for July 2003.
