M.V. “CSCL Xiamen” Christened at XICT

[Hong Kong – 24th November 2000] China Shipping Container Lines Company Limited (CSCL) christened the maiden voyage of its 2,478-TEU M.V. “CSCL Xiamen” at Xiamen International Container Terminals (XICT) on 12th November. “CSCL Xiamen” is China Shipping’s first vessel ever-owned and is added to its fleet for the Far East – Europe service.

CSCL was the first shipping line to begin operating direct Europe container services from Xiamen in August 1999. “As one of the Special Economic Zones and dragon-head of Fujian Province’s economy, Xiamen is endowed with a natural deep-water port and modern terminal facilities offering shippers efficient direct line-haul services reaching anywhere in the world. The naming of M.V. “CSCL Xiamen” after the city of “Xiamen” signifies CSCL’s commitment to serving this market,” Mr. Zhang Shao Wei, representative of CSCL commented at the ceremony.

Mr. Patrick Lam, General Manager of XICT said, “We warmly welcome the maiden voyage of M.V. “CSCL Xiamen” as this is a memorable event for both CSCL and XICT. CSCL is the first shipping company to use XICT to operate 2 line-haul services – Xiamen to Europe and Xiamen to US West Coast. We congratulate CSCL on her success in the container liner business.”
