New Mediterranean Service for the Port of Felixstowe

14-Oct-2002

The Port of Felixstowe welcomed the first vessel for new customer Turkon Line, the 1,100 TEU Besire Kalkavan, on Sunday 13th October 2002.

Turkon Line was established in April 1997, as the first independent, privately-owned Turkish shipping line.

The new service will initially operate a sailing every ten days from the UK’s largest container port to Turkey. Transit times are 10 days to Gemlik, 11 days to Istanbul, and 12 days to Izmir.

Commenting on the new service, Richard Pearson, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, said:

“We are delighted that Turkon Line has chosen the Port of Felixstowe as its port of call in the UK. The new service further enhances the large network of international ports connected to Felixstowe, and enables the Port to offer an even greater choice of carriers to UK importers and exporters.”
