The Port of Felixstowe welcomed its namesake, ‘CSCL Felixstowe’, on its inaugural voyage on Thursday 21st November 2002.

The 4,500-TEU CSCL Felixstowe has been introduced onto China Shipping Container Lines’ Far-East China service, calling at main ports in South East Asia, China and the Far East. The vessel is nearly 260 metres long, with a DWT of 50,600.

Peter Morton, Chief Operating Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, presented the Master of ‘CSCL Felixstowe’, Capt. Crasto Sanil, with a special limited-edition print of the Port of Felixstowe during a ceremony on board the vessel.

Richard Pearson, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, said of the new vessel:

“We are extremely honoured that China Shipping Container Lines have chosen to name one of their latest series of ships after Felixstowe. We thank them for their continued support, and wish ‘CSCL Felixstowe’ and its crew well on its maiden voyage.”

Derek W. Johnson, Deputy Chairman of China Shipping (UK) Agency Co Limited, said the arrival of ‘CSCL Felixstowe’ in the UK was further evidence of China Shipping Container Lines’ commitment to their service between the UK and Asia. To commemorate the ship’s arrival, a plaque was presented to the Master by Gu Jingsong, Managing Director of China Shipping (UK) Agency Co Limited.
