QC Shipping Launches First Ever Direct Shipping Link Between Indonesia and Bangladesh at JICT

[Jakarta, 30th January 2001] – Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) today announced the inaugural direct shipping link between Indonesia and Bangladesh with the berthing of QC Shipping’s “QC Pintail” at the Tanjung Priok terminal.

The 5608 GRT “QC Pintail” has a capacity of 574 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and is joined by a sister ship, the “QC Teal” in sailing between JICT, Surabaya, Port Kelang and Chittagong every 9-11 days.

The first new shipping line customer of the year for JICT, QC Shipping is Bangladesh’s largest shipping line and operates an extensive service network throughout South Asia.

At an on-board ceremony to welcome the vessel Mr. Ashwin Prabhu, Marketing Manager for QC’s General Agent in Indonesia, PT Inter Oceanindo Logistiktama, highlighted the potential of the new service :

“This is a breakthrough service linking Indonesia and Bangladesh. We are sure that this service will encourage trade between the two nations and are pleased to have chosen JICT as our terminal operator in Jakarta.”

With JICT’s first post panamax berth already in operation, the terminal will be further expanding its berth facilities rapidly in 2001 and adding new equipment and systems, as the drive towards creating a world class hub port for Indonesia continues.
