[21st November 2003 – Hong Kong] – On 20th November 2003, Xiamen Port’s annual throughput has exceeded two million TEU. The two millionth container was loaded onto COSCO’s vessel M.V. “Chuan He” at Xiamen International Container Terminals (XICT) and the Port Authority organized a ceremony to celebrate the historical occasion.

The ceremony was officiated by VIPs including Li Chuan, Vice Governor of Fujian Province; Zhang Changping, Mayor of Xiamen Municipality; Wang Yongjun, Director of Xiamen Port Authority and Xu Lirong, General Manager of COSCO. Other government representatives from the Xiamen Municipal Communications Committee, Customs and Joint Inspection Units, and guests in the trade also attended the ceremony.

Mr. Patrick Lam, General Manager of XICT commented, “We are honoured to record this throughput milestone at XICT. The Xiamen Municipal Government and related government bodies have been boosting the development in Haicang. Being the only terminal in Xiamen capable of handling the 6th generation container vessels, XICT will contrive to develop in line with Haicang and contribute to the prosperity of Xiamen.”
