First Domestic Feeder Service Calls At Jakarta International Container Terminal

22-Sep-1999

Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) announced the maiden call of PACC’s vessel, the “Linau 8” at JICT on the 15th September 1999, carrying containers for transshipment at JICT onto the direct services to Europe and North America already calling at JICT. The arrival of the “Linau 8” marks the inaugural service linking JICT with other ports in Indonesia.

The 126 TEU-sized “Linau 8” will call at JICT, Semarang and Surabaya on a weekly basis and it is hoped that the service will soon develop to cover other Indonesian ports.

Since operations at JICT commenced on April 1st 1999, productivity at JICT has already shown impressive gains, whilst the volume of cargo handled at the terminal continues to increase. With existing –14m deep berths being equipped and development plans for expansion already nearing completion, the potential for increased direct services to JICT exists, affirming the terminal’s preeminent role for trade in this
region.

At a ceremony to welcome the “Linau 8”, Mr Simon Moore, President Director of JICT highlighted the significance and benefits of the new service :

“ We are extremely pleased to welcome PACC to JICT and see this service as the first cornerstone of a domestic network connecting Indonesian ports, with JICT at the hub. This new service, as well as
providing importers and exporters with cost and time savings, will help in attracting additional mainline vessels to call at JICT.”
