[Jakarta, 14 May 2003] – To reinforce its commitment to developing Tanjung Priok Seaport as the International Hub Port for Indonesia, Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), Indonesia’s largest container port, recently received one Post-Panamax Quay Crane. The Doosan Heavy Equipment Quay Crane was delivered to JICT Terminal 1 from Lampung at 15.00 hours on Monday. The newly purchased equipment will be put into operation immediately following technical commissioning.

The newly arrived Quay Crane has an outreach of 52.1 metres and backreach of 15 metres capable of handling larger and wider mother vessels with twin lift capability which allows faster loading and unloading increasing the terminal’s overall productivity.

Commenting on the newly arrived Quay Crane, W.S. Wirjawan, President Director of JICT said the new equipment represents JICT’s commitment to developing Tanjung Priok as the International Gateway for the country’s exports and imports. “With the arrival of new Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGC) and Post-Panamax Quay Cranes over the past year, JICT is now capable and confident that we will attract more direct services to Europe, the Americas and Australia. Furthermore, with the final phase of JICT’s berth construction nearing completion, we are now more than ready to compete with other ports in the region.”

With the arrival of the equipment, JICT has increased its total number of Quay Cranes (Post-Panamax and Panamax) to 16.
