OUR APPROACH TO COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITIES. IT IS ONE OF THE KEY PILLARS OF THE GROUP SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK.

As a network of ports that stretches across many countries and continents, we are committed to helping the people and investing in the communities and cities where we operate.

We've been running two flagship Community Investment Campaigns that focus on Education and Environmental Protection for decades. We are proud of the work we do.

OUR FLAGSHIP CAMPAIGNS

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

WE ARE KEEN TO PROMOTE EFFORTS FOR CREATING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

Go Green

Go Green is part of a global environmental initiative undertaken by Hutchison Ports in partnership with members of the maritime community and local stakeholders such as government departments, NGOs and schools.  Every year, our employees take part and demonstrate their support for environmental protection through various campaigns and awareness activities, including tree-planting, beach trash clean-up, waste recycling and biodiversity conservation projects.  Read about Go Green in the past years.

EDUCATION

WE VALUE EDUCATION AND SEE THE YOUNG GENERATION AS FUTURE LEADERS OF OUR BUSINESS.

DOCK SCHOOL

Dock School was introduced in 1992.  It is designed to provide support and assistance to the schools in port’s vicinity especially those with financial challenges.  In addition to offering direct financial support and purchase of school facilities, our local teams also initiate a wide range of educational activities to provide learning outside the school that help to develop students’ potential such as terminal visits, training programmes, work placements, scholarships and environmental related activities.

IN 2024, WE CONTINUED OUR EFFORTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES BY ADDING NEW IDEAS TO THE TWO FLAGSHIP CAMPAIGNS.

GO GREEN AND DOCK SCHOOL - OUR OcEaNS Project

To promote a culture of caring for our environment while achieving the goals we set out in our net-zero strategy, we introduced a new Go Green Initiative - “Our Oceans Project“, partnering with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), our teams organised a series of oceans related activities and climate change educational programmes for staff, Dock School students and members of our communities. These activities can help us learn more about how to protect our environment.

During the year, our teams have conducted over 110 oceans related activities, planted more than 16,782 trees, and engaged with over 2,000 students, proving that “Together we can make it happen”.

Stay tuned for more exciting stories in 2025! meanwhile, please enjoy watching the 2024 Go Green video, capturing many wonderful moments of the community activities.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2025

Go Beyond Go Green is a long-term initiative designed to foster a culture of caring for our environment within the communities. With a target “1 action or 1 hour”, we encourage our stakeholders, especially those have never been to our Go Green activities, - including our staff members, business partners, clients and Dock School students - to engage more actively in our Go Green activities. Just one action or one hour dedicated to supporting Go Green activities—such as tree planting, maintaining a paperless office, participating in Earth Hour by WWF, or reducing plastic waste—can make a significant difference.

In 2025, we will also promote the Circular Economy, a fundamental concept that involves sharing, reusing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products. In Hong Kong, as part of the campaign pilot, we will collect local plastic waste from the terminals to create "R" products. These will be used to reward both our internal and external communities, including coral cookie tags for the WWF-HK Marine Life Centre, stationery for our staff members and clients, and an art installation aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of reducing plastic waste.
