Safety

Consistent with our goal of long-term sustainable growth for our business, Hutchison Ports continuously seeks to develop and improve our safety management standards and practices. Various policies are in place to govern the safety aspect in our operation and ensure that we provide a safe working environment for our employees and external users at our terminals and port facilities.

Our Group Safety Policy acts as the direct link between the comprehensive strategies set up by the Group Safety Committee (SAFCOM) and the daily operations at the terminal level. All business units are required to adhere to the Policy as well as developing and maintaining safety standards and guidelines according to the Group’s Global Minimum Safety Standards (GMSS).

We have implemented a comprehensive Safety Management System which is aligned to ISO450001:2018, the international standard on occupational health and safety management systems. The major elements are outlined as follows.

The Group’s Safety Management System promotes the continual improvement of our safety performance, prioritising safety in every circumstance.

FULLY CERTIFIED AND VALIDATED MEMBER OF CUSTOMS-TRADE PARTNERSHIP AGAINST TERRORISM (C-TPAT)

C-TPAT is a US government-business initiative, introduced following 9/11 to strengthen supply chain and border security. Shipments from C-TPAT members move more quickly and smoothly across US borders, with reduced numbers of inspections.

Hutchison Ports is a global member of C-TPAT since 2009 – all our business units are certified with a single C-TPAT Status Verification Interface Number (SVI) – which is available from the Hutchison Ports Security Committee (SECOM) and its Standards and Guidelines Team of Regional Security Coordinators.

CERTIFIED INTERNATIONAL SHIP AND PORT FACILITY SECURITY (ISPS) CODE COMPLIANT

The ISPS Code, adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), is an international framework through which ships and port facilities must operate to detect and deter international terrorism. We gained certification for compliance since June 2004.
